Some journalists have called the attention of security agencies to the criminal activities being perpetrated by hoodlums under the new Agege bridge, especially at nights.

It may be recalled that Lagos Monitoring Team had reported the account of a victim who was recently robbed by hoodlums in the axis.

The said victim had bitterly lamented the fact that the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) under the leadership of CSP Yinka Egbeyemi had failed to mount and maintain security surveillance in the hotspots in the area, a development which had emboldened the criminal elements.

The report generated further reactions from several residents who came forward with reports of similar occurrences in other parts of the state where traffic robberies and all sort of criminal activities are going on almost on a daily basis.

In a post on social media, a journalist, Mrs Taiwo Omilani reported how hoodlums are now taking money by force from people in the area.

“Under bridge Agege in the night is no go area with the bad guys taking money by force,” she said.

Another journalist, Adeleye Adeyemi, who recalled his experience when he was also attacked, urged security agencies to urgently do the needful to prevent the area from being turned to hideout of hoodlums.

“I have been harassed there too with another colleague. It is unfortunate that the Security of that area degenerated moment after the bridge was inaugurated! Security agents should not watch criminals turn that place an hideout of hoodlums! I dread that place now,” he said.

On his part, another journalist,
Benedict Uwalaka said Agege was becoming something else, and that parents must take responsibility for the proper upbringing of their children.

“Agege is something else, there are two particular places that those boys have, first is one street off Amoo and the old Otta road after the bridge.

“I was on Okada one day at about 9:00am, when one guy carried cutlass against another person. I did not know if he cut the other guy or not.

“Parents just procreate because they have libidos without commensurate care for their children,” he said.

The RRS Commander, Egbeyemi, had recently led his men on a special operation to rid Agege of hoodlums and criminal elements troubling the peace of the area.

The Taskforce too carried out similar operation in the axis.

However, the concerns of the public is a sustained effort to mount security post on the hotspots to permanently put an end to robbery under the bridge and in other areas, as well as activities of criminal groups, especially the Awawa Boys.

Many also called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to address the darkness that now pervades most parts of the state at nights in line with the light up Lagos project.
