Bad Roads In Lagos Amid Huge IGR Shows Poor Governance – SPN

0 4

Socialist Party of Nigeria says the deplorable state of roads in Lagos State was a proof of bad governance.

The party said this in a press statement.

SPN CHARGES LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT TO URGENTLY ADDRESS DEPLORABLE ROADS IN THE STATE

The Lagos State Chapter of the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) calls on the Lagos State Government to urgently repair, maintain and construct most of the roads in the state, which are currently in deplorable and pathetic State.

The Lagos State SPN is of the view that most roads in the state have become unmotorable. The Party also feels that among several roads in the state which, either wholly or partly, are now in different abject conditions are the Ikorodu-Epe Road, Abule-Egba to Ajegunle toll gate, Ibeju-Lekki-Epe Road, Lagos-Benin Expressway, Mile two (2) to Badagry Expressway, Apapa – Oshodi Expressway just to mention a few.

All these roads are critical for daily users most especially for commerce and to ease movements in the state being the commercial nerve center of the country.

The Party argued that the terrible state of the roads, despite the huge monthly Internally Generated Revenue made by Lagos State Government aside the statutory allocation from the Federal Government is a sad tale of misgovernance by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government.

The Party also submitted that with the torrential rainfall in the state, most of the roads in Lagos State have become inaccessible due to flooding, exposing the “mega-rot” of the “Mega-City”.

The Party also noted that the collapse of the roads reflects the failure of the contract system wherein big business friends and party loyalists are rewarded with inflated and fraudulent contracts.

SPN posited that to resolve the crisis of flooding and poor road network in the state, what is urgently needed is adequately funded workers and community-controlled public works programme that will repair, maintain and reconstruct the roads, build houses and other physical infrastructures in the State.

The Party submitted that given the outright anti-poor and pro-rich disposition of the All Progressives Congress, as a political party presently controlling the reins of power of Lagos State Government, it is utterly incapable of meeting the genuine needs and aspirations of the working people of Lagos State.

We call on the working masses and the poor to build a mass movement against flooding, poor State of roads and absence of basic amenities in Lagos State to force the Lagos State Government to do the needful.

We call on workers, trade unions and artisans, students to build a mass working people’s political alternative that will defeat the pro-rich capitalist political parties (PDP, APC, APGA etc.) to enable the full utilization of our collective resources on a socialist programme for improvement in living conditions such as the construction of roads, electricity, education, healthcare etc.
SPN represents a huge step in this direction and we call on workers, artisans, traders, students and youth, tired of the misgovernance to join the SPN today.
