COVID-19: FRSC Boss Takes Campaign To Lagos Motor Parks

The Lagos State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olusegun Ogungbemide has commenced a tour of motor parks in Lagos to sensitise public transport operators on the need to maintain strict adherence to COVID-19 precautionary guidelines.

Ogungbemide said on Saturday that the development had become necessary to ensure that public transport operators comply with the Federal Government’s directive on the pandemic.

According to him, the step is a follow-up to ensure that guidelines on the provisions of alcohol-based sanitisers or hand washing equipment, use of face masks and social distancing in public transport are obeyed.

The FRSC boss said it was also is in view of the recent lifting of ban on inter-state movements by the Federal Government.

“We are going to the motor parks to talk to the drivers and passengers. When we get to motor parks, we check if the passengers are using their face masks, if they are not, we direct them to do so.

“We also correct drivers and passengers who do not observe physical distancing. Any driver that insists on pulling out without observing protocols, we get such arrested and booked for overloading”.

He said that corps inspected the motor parks whether they had water and soap or sanitiser for their use and that of the passengers.
Ogungbemide said that the corps also donated sanitisers to some of the parks as part of its own Corporate Social Responsibility .

“So far so good, the compliance is high at parks, only few passengers don’t use the face masks the way it ought to be used, some put it below their mouths, some do not wear at all.

“We are pleading with the members of the public that COVID-19 is real, and that as they move from one place to the other, they should comply with the protocols and keep safe,” he said.

Ogungbemide led a team to Ojota Bus Section, Ogba Motor Park, BRT bus terminal, Ojodu Berger among others.
