•As LASWARCO Hosts International Water Conference
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is making plans to encourage long-term investment to create the enabling environment and facilitate financial viability of the water sector, with the principal goal of ensuring availability of potable water for residents.
To this end, the state government, through the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO), has firmed up arrangement to host the second Lagos International Water Conference LIWAC 2021.
According to LASWARCO, the domestic and industrial use of water and its importance to a state, especially an urbanized one like Lagos, cannot be over emphasized.
“This also means its scarcity; contamination or wastage will obviously be hazardous. Hence, the Lagos State government, through the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO), is organizing its second Lagos International Water Conference LIWAC 2021.
“In line with its ministerial responsibility, the conference seeks to explore the primary objective of promoting the long term interest of the consumers and to facilitate efficiency in the water sector, encouraging long-term investment and enabling its financial viability,” LASWARCO said.
This year’s conference is themed: “Water Security and Investment Opportunities in Megacities; A Case Study of Lagos State.” The conference holds on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 by 9a.m at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, Mrs Funke Adepoju said the conference would not just be a talk shop, but one that would truly engender actionable and workable solutions to the challenges in the water sector.
Both local and internationally renowned seasoned professionals and experts in the subject matter have been lined up as speakers at the conference, and they include Osward Mulenga Chanda, the Acting Director of the Water Development and Sanitation Department at the Africa Development Bank; Dr. Rob Fuller, Global Water Sector Advisor; and Dr. Boluwaji Onabolu, Urban Water, WASH, Environmental and Public Health Specialist.
Others are John Garette, Developing Finance Policy Researcher and Advocacy Specialist; Pastor Tawakalitu A. Williams, an Infrastructural Project Conception and Management Expert; Timeyin Uwejamomere, Managing Partner/CEO, Mangrove & Partners Ltd; and Charles Scott Riba, Developing Finance Policy Researcher and Advocacy Specialist.
