The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, commandant for special traffic Mayors, Tajudeen Adeshina has trained members of Rotary Club of Iju Spring in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area on traffic management and control.
While training the new Mayors, Tajudeen said integrity is key as all Mayors must uphold the good image of the traffic management team, as the task ahead is cumbersome and requires volunteers to come to the rescue for a traffic free Lagos.
Reading out the rules governing LASTMA and the special traffic Mayors in Lagos State, Tajudeen said, “as mayors you have to be vigilant, observant, help organize seminars, workshops and sensitization especially during the ember months to awake the people’s consciences against loss of lives and properties.
“The major function of a mayor is to ensure a smooth flow of traffic within the Lagos metropolis. Though the task is enormous but we shall continue to partner with people of timber and Calibre in our society to make our roads free from grid lock”. Tajudeen said.
Commending the mayor commandant, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA Adeshina, the immediate past district Governor of Rotary Club of Iju Spring 9110, Bola Oyebade appreciates the commandant and his team for finding rotary club of Iju spring worthy of the honour of its members as mayors in LASTMA, he promised on behalf of other mayors to put in there best in support of the LASTMA authority in their quest to free Lagos from traffic gridlock.
The President of Rotary Club of Iju Spring 9110, Olujimi Biskersteth express his gratitude to the LASTMA commandant and team, while imploring members of Rotary club of Iju spring to ensure diligence in the discharge of their service to humanity.
Decorating the mayors in Iju Shaga area of Ifako-Ijaiye, the LASTMA zonal head, zone 29, which covers, Iju, Ishaga, Elliot, Fagba, Jonathan Coker, Charity to Agege Flyover Bridge, Mr. Hakeem Aregbesola, said that most of the mayors will work with him mostly to ensure the aforementioned corridors has free flow of traffic.
The new mayors were advised to be ready for their official induction, which will be conducted by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on a date yet to be announced along with other mayors trained so far across the state.
It is in record that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, was created in 2000, as it activities were passed into law in 2004, amended to accommodate mayors (Volunteers) in 2008.
